Don't Call It the A4 . . It's Now the A5

Who are you .. and what have you done with the A4!?

The Audi logo.

New Audi A4, except . . . it's not called the A4 anymore. It's the A5. Which means that, yes, the A4 saloon and the A4 Avant become the A5 saloon and the A5 Avant.

And no, we’re not bonkers.

Audi might be though. They’re naming all their electric cars with even numbers and all of their internal combustion engine (diesel & petrol) cars with odd numbers, which is the reason for the change.

And you thought Maths at school would never come in useful . . .

Powertrains

So . . . 4 new variants: the A5 and S5 saloon/sedan, and the A5 and S5 estate (or ‘Avant’ as Audi calls it). All sit on the new 'Premium Platform Combustion platform.

A number of petrol and diesel engines will be offered from launch. A 2.0-litre petrol can be specified with either 150hp or 205hp. Meanwhile, a turbocharged diesel is still available (also producing 205hp), whilst the sporty S5 will make use of a 3.0-litre petrol V6.

No electric version is on the cards, with the A4 e-tron (even number!) taking that role within Audi’s saloon range. A stationary Audi A5 sedan.

Styling

Outwardly, we think the saloon looks almost BMW-ey, particularly at the rear end.

Up front, Audi has squashed the grille down a bit from its previous larger self.

Interior-wise, everything just screams Audi, with the lines and lights sticking in-line with the brand DNA. It’s all just a bit more modern though.

There’s plenty of toys too. The optional passenger screen lets the passenger up-front play around with the navigation or watch streamed content on the go.

The infotainment is also rumored to have ChatGPT integration. How about that . . .

Trim levels have yet to be determined, but you can expect the usual line-up of Sport, S line and Edition 1.

When Can I Get It?
