And no, this practical family electric SUV may not stand out too much on the outside (part of the brand's strategy is to have the exterior of their cars blend in with popular vehicles already out there), but it's in the tech department that XPENG really shines through, and they very much regard themselves as industry leaders in this area.

Tesla is already losing ground to Chinese manufacturers and this particular model aims to go toe to toe with one of Musk's masterpieces. Yes, it may not be as quick or go as far on a single charge, but it's far more comfortable and a lot easier to live with day-to-day.

There's the interior, for one thing. It’s more conventional than that of the Tesla Model Y, and better-built too. The fact that you can connect your Android or Apple smartphone to the 15-inch infotainment screen with CarPlay or Android Auto can be a big draw, and there’s also a separate digital display in front of the driver.

As in the Model Y, the display shows you where other vehicles are positioned relative to you on the road, giving you confidence and trust. You can however choose to toggle the car to automatically slow down if a road sign signals a change in the speed of the road, or tell it to ask you first.

Is XPENG a new manufacturer?

Although it's relatively new to the UK, Chinese manufacturer XPENG (full name Guangzhou Xiaopeng Automotive Technology) has been around since 2014, with a broader selection of models available to Chinese customers. XPENG do have ambitious plans to expand further in the UK.

Will my XPENG G6 lease include maintenance and servicing?
