Named after famed inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla, electric car company Tesla has one mission and one mission only: to revolutionise the car industry by bringing you the highest-tech and highest-quality zero emissions vehicles.
Designed to be as much computers as cars, the electric vehicles produced by Tesla continue to deliver a whole host of features not seen elsewhere on the market. Bringing you smooth driving and cheaper running costs than petrol or diesel, there's not much to complain about. Plus, the company also produces batteries, solar panels and roof tiles. Beat that . . .
Being an SUV version of the popular Model 3, but slightly smaller in size than the Model X SUV, the Model Y electric cars aims to be the safest vehicle in its class, with a rigid body structure, a low centre of gravity and large crumple zones which ‘provide unparalleled protection’, according to Tesla. The front and rear seats have space for 5, and there's plenty of onboard technology like Tesla Vision and a modern infotainment system to keep you entertained.
The Standard rear-wheel drive model and the dual motor all-wheel drive Long Range and Performance versions all use the same 82kWh battery pack. They just differ in how that power is actually used. The Standard model has a 267-mile range and a 0-60mph time of 6.6 seconds. The Long Range version, as the name suggests, has a longer range of 331 miles on a single charge. The Performance version, meanwhile, decreases that range to 319 miles, but gets you from 0-60mph in an impressive 3.5 seconds.
And if boot space is what you're after, the Model Y gives you a generous 854-litres of it, extending to 1869-litres if you fold down the back seats.
